Can beginners cross-country ski?

Yes. Most first-time visitors begin with classic cross-country skiing because its straightforward, parallel-ski motion is easier to learn than skate skiing. With the right guidance and equipment, most people who can walk comfortably can learn to cross-country ski.

The Breckenridge Nordic Center is an excellent place to learn. Our kind, knowledgeable staff, stable beginner-friendly equipment and easy terrain create a supportive learning environment. Our staff will fit your equipment, explain the basics and recommend an appropriate beginner trail. A lesson is the best way to learn balance, stopping, turning and hill control with an instructor, but you can also get started on your own with our free video tutorials.

Beginner trails can be busy during holidays, especially around Christmas and New Year’s. For the quietest experience, visit on a non-holiday weekday. January through March—and often early April—typically provide the widest selection of snow-covered terrain.
